How Can I find a Nanny?
Parents strive for peace of mind while they are at work, ensuring the safety of their children and home. The task of finding and hiring a Nanny has always been challenging as parents seek nothing but the finest for their children.
Engaging with an agency to find a Nanny streamlines the process and provides access to the top-notch options for your children and home. This is a primary motivation for parents to opt for finding a Nanny through an agency.
As a Domestic Premium Childcare Agency, NannyHousekeepers ensures that all the candidates we recommend to our clients possess the highest qualifications.
Minimum two previous employment references, a DBS Check, and a First-Aid Certificate are required. The required years of experience may vary depending on the position, but it should be more than two years.
What is the cost of hiring a nanny?
The initial factor to consider is whether you require a temporary nanny or a permanent nanny.
In the case of a temporary nanny, NannyHousekeepers will levy a commission of £30 per day. Following this, the family will be responsible for directly paying the nanny an hourly wage of approximately £15 gross per hour, with a minimum requirement of 5 hours per day.
What is the fee required by the agency for assisting in the search for a Nanny? For individuals seeking a Nanny, Nanny-Housekeeper, or Housekeeper in a permanent role, our registration fee is £69 (£93 for Au Pair registrations). Once registered, our team of consultants will promptly provide you with suitable candidates’ profiles and facilitate interviews with them. The final step involves extending a contract offer to the chosen candidate. At this stage, the consultant will calculate the commission fee that the family is required to pay to the agency. This fee amounts to 18% – 20% of the candidate’s net salary. To illustrate, let’s consider a scenario where the nanny’s weekly salary is £450. Multiplying this by 52 (the number of weeks in a year) and then by 16% will yield the agency fee as follows: £450 x 52 = £23,400 x 18% = £4,212 (+ VAT).

Salaries for domestic staff, such as nannies and governesses, vary depending on several factors. In the UK, there is a high demand for experienced and skilled nanny candidates, leading to competitive wages. An experienced and talented nanny may command a wage of up to £25 per hour due to the scarcity of qualified candidates.
Factors that impact the salary range consist of:
Work hours and level of adaptability: If your position is part-time and provides only a limited number of hours in the afternoon or demands a high level of flexibility that hinders a nanny from securing another part-time job, the salary requested might need to be increased to cover the nanny’s living expenses.
Skills:
Individuals who possess exceptional fluency in the English language are able to demand higher salaries in countries other than the United Kingdom. Candidates who are bilingual and have experience in teaching an additional language, or those who can assist in the learning of a musical instrument such as the violin as a nanny, may also be able to command a higher salary.
Location: In the United Kingdom, there is a greater need for experienced nannies compared to the surrounding home counties. However, it is worth noting that finding educated and skilled nanny candidates in rural areas is more challenging. As a result, nannies who are willing to work in rural locations within the UK or overseas, such as the Middle East, Russia, Africa, China, and South America, can command higher salaries.
Experience:
A nanny’s salary is often determined by their level of experience. For instance, a nanny with a decade of experience is likely to earn more than a nanny who has only been in the field for 2 years. This principle applies across various industries, where candidates with more experience generally have higher salary expectations.
Education:
Qualifications play a significant role in determining a nanny’s salary. Nannies with a Bachelor of Education or OCN Level 4 qualification can anticipate a higher pay grade compared to those without formal qualifications in their field. Your nanny consultant can provide guidance on salary expectations based on qualifications and experience levels. Here is a salary guideline reflecting market rates for nannies and governesses with 1-20 years of experience.
